IT'S A PROCESS

Pool construction is a detailed process that involves several steps. Here’s what you can expect when working with our Kansas City pool builders:

  • 1. Finalize Plan & Start Digging

Once we've finished with your 3D design, we'll meet and make any necessary changes. Then we'll head to the location, put marking paint in the yard, and start excavating.

  • 2. Set/Build Walls & Install Plumbing

After excavation, we'll frame the pool with structual steel, form work, and install the custom plumbing in the appropriate areas. (Plaster)

After excavation for vinyl liner pools we set the walls and pour the concrete collar.

  • 3. Plumb and Backfill

Next we will run all the plumbing (main drains, skimmers, returns, etc.), all applicable conduits (lights and auto cover), and backfill with gravel (in most cases).

  • 4. Begin Final Touches

We'll install and wire all equipment. Any filtration system will be installed and connected to the plumbing. We will also start laying tile and coping. We will pour pool decks at this step as well.

  • 5. Plaster or Vinyl Liner Installation

Depending on the style of pool you have chosen, we will either install the Vinyl Liner of your choice or install the Plaster and begin filling with water.

  • 6. Enjoy

We will run a leak detection test and any other neccessary procedures to make sure everything is running smoothly. After a final customer walk through, the pool is now completed!

The cost of an inground pool depends on the type of pool, size, and features you choose. Vinyl liner pools typically start around $59,000, while custom gunite pools usually start around $95,000 or more. Final pricing can vary depending on pool size, decking, equipment, water features, and other custom upgrades.

  • How long does it take to install an inground pool?

The timeline for installing an inground pool depends on the type of pool and site conditions. Vinyl liner pools typically take about 4–6 weeks to complete, while custom gunite pools usually take around 10–15 weeks due to the additional construction and curing time required. Weather, permitting, design complexity, and added features can also affect the overall timeline.

  • Do I need a permit to build a pool in the Kansas City area?

Yes. Most cities in the Kansas City metro require permits and inspections for inground pool construction. The Icon Pools team handles the permitting process for you to ensure the project meets all local building codes and regulations.

  • Can you design my pool before construction starts?

Yes. At Icon Pools, we use 3D Pool Studio software to create a detailed rendering of your pool design before construction begins. This allows you to see your pool layout, features, and backyard design before we break ground.

  • What features can be added to a new pool?

Many homeowners choose to include features such as tanning ledges, automation systems that make the pool easier to maintain, heaters, built-in benches and seating ledges, water feature walls, automatic covers, and custom decking. These upgrades can enhance both the appearance and functionality of your pool while creating a more enjoyable backyard experience.

  • What should I consider before installing an inground pool?

Before installing a pool, homeowners should consider yard space, property drainage, access for construction equipment, local permit requirements, and how the pool will be used. Our team evaluates your backyard and helps design a pool that fits both your property and your lifestyle.

  • What type of pool is best for the Kansas City climate?

Both vinyl liner and gunite pools perform very well in the Kansas City climate. These pool types allow for flexibility during installation and can adapt well to the region’s soil conditions. Our team can help you determine which option best fits your backyard and budget.

  • How deep can my pool be?

Yes. Many pools are designed specifically for smaller backyards. Features like freeform shapes, compact designs, and tanning ledges can help maximize space while still creating a beautiful backyard pool.

  • Do you provide pool service after installation?

Yes. In addition to pool construction, Icon Pools offers pool service, maintenance, repairs, and seasonal openings and closings to help keep your pool in great condition.
